The result is BM-Flyer. I was admiring the numbers painted underneath the wings of a 1929 Davis D-1 airplane and found an idea for a new set of numerals and now a full font. I've always said one of the better things about being a Graphic Designer is spending afternoons browsing a new museum is part of the job. What was interesting about these though is the inside corners were rounded and the 2 had a long diagonal line I had not seen on block numbers before. One day, a visit to a small history museum in Richmond, Indiana paid off well. With only a few numbers and letters to work with, I set out to re-create those and complete the full alphabet. They were block letters, fairly standard in construction and similar to the likes of United.
